HAPPY spring!

It looks as if the snow is behind us, the birds are singing and I see some green leaves poking through the soil!
I have been spending far too much time on the computer again, that old love/hate relationship with social media. It is a weird time and logging on to Instagram to post a class or photos, then leads me down a rabbit hole. I am not a rabbit. I then hop over to "threads" and get wound up in a lot of weird stuff people post. Then one thing leads to another, and hours disappear and I have made no pottery.
I am learning how to batch create posts so I don't have to go online as much so we shall see how that goes. Owning a business like Little Bird Clay Company is like owning 5 businesses and doing 67 jobs and wearing 89 hats.
That said ... what we have going on now is a REDESIGN!! Kind of! We are adding some cute drop-down puffy paper lanterns, more tables and comfy chairs to "The Nest" and expanding our offerings! (AND COFFEE AND SNACKS) ESPRESSO MACHINE!
Starting in April we are GASP doing away with multi week wheel classes! BYE BYE WHEELS! I know it seems counterproductive right? Well, we want to focus on the things that are the most successful, and profitable, and what seems to make people the happiest, and that is hand-built pottery workshops, one-time classes, and DiY offerings.
Many people love the "idea" of pottery making on the wheel. They see those well-toned earthy crunchy creatures whizzing clay into beautiful vases in less than 30 seconds and think... "I would love to do that!" Sadly, what that video doesn't explain is the many hours of failure that have led to that video, nor does the artist explain what kind of clay they use, the water to speed to pressure ratio, or anything else that is vitally important! Just the ol' "look how easy it is!" Well, take it from this old lady, it is not "easy." It is a skill that needs to be honed over time, it requires patience and attention, something we all seem to be lacking these days, not to mention the cost of a 6-week class can be daunting. I have been teaching wheel throwing for 30 years! We are not TOTALLY getting rid of wheel options, instead we will offer limited PRIVATE and SEMIPRIVATE 2-hour sessions, and everyone's fave past time- "Pottey Chirps with Jamie" otherwise known as "Game of Throwns" where I will give you a 100% honest critique of your wheel throwing and tips to help you improve. 30-minute sessions will include you throwing a couple of pots that will be recycled, and me giving you the business! Details and schedule forthcoming. If you are interested in private classes send me an email hello@littlebirdclayco.com. Private classes will be assigned to an instructor that meets your skill level.
We will be offering a TON of hand-built pottery workshops, DIY options in our craft cafe "The Nest" and hopefully I can get off the computer and make some pots!
AND WE NOW OFFER GLAZING! We make it, you glaze it! Glaze our handmade pottery we make right here! None of that imported bisqueware! We hand make all of our stoneware pottery and now are offering special "GLAYZE BAR" pottery to glaze!
CT CLAY CRAWL is coming May 2 and 3! Read all about it here 2026 Clay Crawl | A Statewide Celebration of Clay & Community - Connecticut Clay Guild
That said here is what is coming up! Stay cool!
