Six Weeks. This is an instructional class. Class meets 2 hours per week for a 6-week session. Great for beginners and people who have some pottery experience! Includes - Clay, glazing, and firing for up to 6 finished pieces up to 6" in length* Additional pots will incur a firing fee. The classes are project based with the focus on learning skills rather than keeping every single pot. Any towels or Apron you bring will need to be taken home and laundered between classes. Students will learn to make small to medium vessels from 1-3 lbs each. Focus will be on quality vs quantity and class will incorporate surface treatment, glazing methods, attachments and more. An orientation and class description will be discussed on the first night. You must attend the first night to continue. There are no make ups for missed classes. This is an educational class where the focus is on learning and development of wheel throwing skills and techniques. This is NOT an open studio environment, and participants are expected to follow along with the class syllabus. The focus is on building skills each week, increasing difficulty and technical skill, surface treatments and texture, handles and attachments and finishing and smoothing, working toward independent projects which will be offered in different class or open studio environment. Each week the schedule will vary a bit, but upon arrival you will prep your clay for throwing or trimming and set up your wheel and tools. Weeks 1-4 6:00-6:15 Throwing or trimming prep and set up 6:15-6:30 Demos 6:30-7:45 Throwing/trimming practice, centering, opening, etc... 7:45-8:00 Clean up (leave studio as you found it) Storing completed work, cleaning bats etc... Week 5 - Trimming, attachments, under glazing, carving etc... Week 6 - Glazing and pot luck! This schedule is flexible and subject to change based on project and instructor focus; however, it is a guide to keep things organized so you get the most out of your time in the studio!
